Visit Malta Puma Wins the Cervantes Cup
01 June 2010
The conditions were stunning on Saturday providing the perfect way to get the 2010 RORC Series underway. With a kite start heading East out of the Solent, Visit Malta Puma put in a solid performance to be in the lead pack as the fleet headed out into the English Channel. Before the start, Philippe welcomed the five new faces aboard which included Alice and Kylie who had completed our ‘Introduction to Racing' course three weeks ago. This was to be their first experience of offshore sailing. One of the great things about Sailing Logic is the number of people that are introduced to the sport; and what an introduction this turned out to be! Richard did a fantastic job of the navigation; having just completed his Yachtmaster Theory Course with us he was keen to put some of his new knowledge into practise. When faced with an unexpected/un-forecasted tactical conundrum Richard made a race winning call. This combined with a superb effort from everyone on the team to keep Visit Malta Puma moving as fast as possible in the 3 - 5 knots of breeze enabled her to take first blood in the 2010 offshore season. Skipper Philippe commented upon finishing ‘it felt good as we crossed the line, we were ahead of some really good boats including our old adversary from last season, the Commodore of RORC in his new boat. As the other main contenders called in to say they were approaching the finish we knew we had a good result. However, we were not expecting to be told that we had won overall when we arrived at the Le Havre Yacht Club. That was an amazing feeling. I am so proud of Visit Malta Puma and everyone on the team, it was a great performance.' It is now two RORC races overall in a row that Visit Malta Puma have won! What a great start to the season following on from where they left off!
