New products from Mediterranean Yacht Sales for 2010
During the past Autumn and Winter boat shows, Mediterranean Yacht Sales have witnessed first hand the latest product developments that their brands have launched for the 2010 boating season. Below is a brief description and diagrams of products that range from flat deck deck furlers for sailing boats to 'Anti Theft' boat trackers for all types of craft. All products will make 2010 a faster, easier and more enjoyable season. AXONN Global Data Solutions The AXTracker MMT is an innovative security system that is easy to install and very discrete. Operating on easily replaceable li-ion batteries, the AXTracker transmits a satellite signal as often as every 2 hours. Users can then log into a web-based portal to keep track of their vessels. The compact, battery operated unit can be mounted hidden away on board a yacht, using double sided tape or just a few screws. There is no wiring or interfacing as it is completely self-contained. Discretion is the key word here, since no third parties need be aware if, or where the tracker is installed. Sparcraft An evolution on the previous generation of removable bowsprits, Spracraft have re-engineered the deck attachment points and fittings on the bowsprit. This new version provides a more rigid installation, which also leaves the deck less cluttered when not in use. Other improvements include a sheave integrated into the beak, a tack-line locking mechanism (for boats which do not have a tack-line running to the cockpit), a bobstay attachment point fitted as standard, and a rigid collar for gennaker and code zero furlers (optional). Suitable for boats up to 60 feet long, these bowsprits are an affordable and easy way of significantly improving a yacht's performance, with only minor alterations needed. Facnor Furling System Gennaker and Code-Zero furler This low-profile, easy to use furler is the perfect addition to a removable bowsprit. The Gennaker version can be retro-fitted to any existing Asymmetric spinnaker, to enable the crew to simply furl the sail in and out. Faster than using a snuffer and sock and easily managed when short-handed, these furlers are available in continuous line, and traditional drum versions. They are also small enough to be mounted off most anchor bowrollers without interfering with the headsail. The Anti-Torsion luff rope is also flexible enough to pack the sail in its standard sailbag. Flat Deck - The first webbing furling systems The Flat Deck furling system from Facnor is set to revolutionise the world of performance cruising. This latest genoa furling system draws from their experience with continuous line furling systems, and uses a high-strength webbing strap instead of a rope wound around the drum. The major advantages are two-fold: firstly, the drum is much more compact, allowing the sail to be tacked close to the deck. This minimises the sail area sacrificed for the convenience of a furling system. The second benefit is the mechanical advantage improvement, gained by using a thin webbing strap as opposed to a thick rope. The internal diameter of the drum has been increased and as a result, less force is needed to roll up the sail. A compact, high-strength swivel attaches the webbing to a rope outside the drum to ensure ease of handling. North Sails Following years of successful use of carbon fibre in grand Prix Racing sails, North are now making this material more readily available to the performance oriented cruising and leisure sailors. One of the biggest advantages for the Mediterranean region is that Carbon is not UV sensitive. Furthermore, the lamination quality is second to none, thanks to the superior heat transfer characteristics of the Carbon Fibres. The end result is that performance cruising sails like the 3DL Marathon Series are now available in Carbon laminates, at a lower price than the Aramid (Kevlar) versions. Certec Fenders These strong and lightweight fenders are made from a heavy-duty inflatable bladder, protected within a tough, hard-wearing outer cover. Quickly inflated using an ordinary dinghy pump, these fenders are ideal since they occupy very little space when deflated. They can be stored away and brought out when that occasional extra fender is needed, or take advantage of their light weight to replace your existing fenders with something slightly more "crew friendly". Available in sizes from 15x40cm to 120x180cm and custom sizes also available on request. Nauteriors Fitted Bed Linen for Boats Yes, and we've even thought about the partner. Nauteriors, the exclusive boat bedding company offers a range of high quality fabrics and a choice of nautical designs, including personalised embroidery and customised finishing. As the boat show season draws to a close, Nauteriors have just advised that they have some ex demo models available at special prices.
