The Hull of Megayacht Columbus 80M left Naples' Shipyard heading to Ancona
05 July 2017
The hull of Columbus 80m – protagonist of a spectacular handling - left this morning the Palumbo Group’s shipyard in Naples, heading to Palumbo shipyard in Ancona where, in about 10 days, it will join the aluminum superstructure that has been already completed.
The steel hull, built in Naples, comes complete with systems, piping, stabilizing fins, engines, generators, pumps, bow thruster and an almost finished crew area. It will be coupled to the aluminum superstructure built in Ancona in the shed just completed which can simultaneously accommodate two units up to 110 meters in length.
Columbus 80m, the first megayacht of a series that will grow on larger sizes, is a full- displacement megayacht with steel hull and aluminum superstructure built with an unusual construction process for yachts of this size that required great organizational skills: the construction has thus been split into different sites, and carried out in parallel rather than in series following the same quality requirements but accelerating time to delivery, which has shortened by about 8 months.
This has been possible thanks to the experience that the Group has gained in over 50-years of activity in the construction, reconversion, refit and maintenance of yachts and ships, including commercial, passengers, cruise passengers and cargo vessels, and to the largest network of shipyards in the Mediterranean specialized in this field.
