Consultation on the draft 'Conformity Assessment of Marine Equipment (Amendment) Regulations, 2016'

11 January 2016

The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority are asking any stakeholder who may be affected by the new regulations for mporting and distributing certain marine equipment, and which will also affect all buyers of such equipment.

Please click on the following two links to see both the expanatory note and a draft text of a new legal notice which will amend the Conformity Assessment of Marine Equipment Regulations (S.L. 427.60). The proposed draft legal notice transposes Commission Directive 2015/559/EU amending Council Directive 96/98/EC on marine equipment.

Marine Equipment includes items such as life-saving products (lifebuoys, lifejackets, life rafts), fire protection equipment, navigation equipment, radio communication equipment, etc. The legal amendments are highly technical in nature and relate to the testing procedures of the products. Importers are advised to ensure marine equipment they import in Malta comply with the latest regulations.

All interested persons are kindly asked to send any comments you may have on the draft text of the proposed Legal Notice directly to the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority by Monday, 25th January 2016.
