March promises to be an exciting month at the Royal Malta Yacht Club. As you are probably aware, between the 24th and 29th March, the Royal Malta Yacht Club will be hosting the RC44 Class. The RC44 Valletta Cup is organised by Yachting Events Ltd, co-hosted by the Ministry for the Economy, Investment and Small Business, supported by the Malta Tourism Authority and held under the auspices of The Malta Sailing Federation and the Royal Malta Yacht Club. This event will see a number of Olympic gold medalists and America's Cup sailors race in our waters in this competitive Class. Members are welcome to visit the Club during this time and experience this event.
In order for our members to make most of this exciting event we have made a few changes to the Racing Calendar.
Just before the start of the RC44 Valletta Cup, on Thursday 19th March the RMYC Double Handed Round Malta Race and Day 5 of the RMYC Match Racing Winter Series will be held followed by the RMYC J70 Winter Regatta on the weekend the 21st and 22nd March.
Immediately after the RC44 Valletta Cup, the Club will proceed with Day 6 of the RMYC Match Racing Winter Series, scheduled for 31st March.
We are pleased to see that there will also be a lot of activity on the water in April with the final day of the RMYC Match Racing Winter Series will being held on 4th April.
The International Yacht Paint Gozo Regatta will be held from the 10th to the 12th April.
The RMYC Match Racing Regatta will be held on the 24th, 25th and 26th April. This event will be one of the selection events organised to choose a team to represent the Royal Malta Yacht Club at the International Etchells Invitational Regatta, which will be held in Cowes, between the 1st and 5th August. This event sees Yacht Clubs from around the world competing for the prestigious Royal Thames Gertrude Cup.
The new calendar is available on the Royal Malta Yacht Club website here:
The Royal Malta Yacht Club has agreed to participate in a new joint initiative with Projects Malta which is being called Yachting Malta and is intended to focus on promoting yachting in Malta, an objective which is seen as an important economic goal nationally and is inherently beneficial to the club.
The Royal Malta Yacht Club was invited by the Government of Malta to join in this project in recognition of its efforts in organising activities related to yachting and its success in holding events at an international level.
This will put the Royal Malta Yacht Club in a position to contribute and have a leading role in the development of yachting in Malta.
