I would like to start off by thanking you all for coming and to especially thank Dr Austin Gatt, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications for allowing us the use of Dock Number One for this year’s edition of the HSBC Premier Boat Show. It is truly an honour for us to organise our show at such an historic and illustrious venue.

A year has now passed since we organized our last presentation at Il-Menqa and I must say that it has really been a very active year, both for Network Publications and also for the Maltese yachting community.
We are all very pleased by the issuance of the government’s white paper on the state of this valuable industry and how it will be assisting in the creation of more yachting berths, thus creating more business for the importers and the trade in general.

Network Publications has also been in discussion with the yachting section of the Chamber of Commerce to improve the boat show. We have purchased brand new gazebos along with professional flooring for them, and have also made arrangements to have a state-of-the-art electricity supply, as well as new contractors for the boards and carpeting. We strongly believe in this industry and have backed up our passion by the investment of thousands of Euros in new equipment.

However, we have strived to ensure that exhibitor costs have remained the same. Last year our contractor did not supply flooring with the gazebo, and this year we have addressed this by including it.
As a sign of our gratitude this year we have commissioned a British artist, Wayne Attwood, to produce a water-colour of Dock Number One which we are presenting to Minister Gatt. Wayne Attwood, besides being a talented artist, is also a keen yachtsman and lives on his boat in the Ta’ Xbiex marina and has visited Malta numerous times over the past 5 years.

This year we have also revised the opening times of our boat show and these will be 6pm till 11pm on Thursday and Friday, and 11am until 11pm on Saturday and Sunday.

As this is now our third edition of the HSBC Premier Valletta Boat Show, we feel that it is also important for us to seek out a permanent location for this event.

In conclusion I would like to thank you all for your kind attention and look forward to welcoming you all at the opening of the show in September.

HSBC Premier Valetta Boat Show

“We are proud to be a part of the government regeneration of this area and I welcome this opportunity to develop the venue for our boat show,” John Formosa, managing director at Network Publications said at the recent announcement that this coming September will see the third edition of the HSBC Premier Valletta Boat Show.

Last year, the Valletta Boat Show was held at Flagstone Wharf and saw 20,000 people view over 70 exhibited yachts. This year promises to be even bigger and better, with the new venue at Dock Number One in Bormla (Cospicua) providing even more space for displays and exhibitors.

This year’s show, held from the 24th to the 27th September, will be in conjunction with the government’s plans to renovate the dilapidated area and restore the beauty of the dock.

“September will bring a vision of the future,” Infrastructure, Transport and Communications Minister, Austin Gatt said, referring to the transformation of Dock Number One.

The biggest players in the boat manufacturing industry will be flexing their muscles with an array of extravagant and luxurious yachts. And you don’t have to be a yachting enthusiast to enjoy the show. You can simply admire the design and craftsmanship that has gone into the production of each and every one of these magnificent vessels.

The HSBC Premier Valletta Boat Show will run for four days; 6pm till 11pm on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th, and 11am until 11pm on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th.

This is an event that is not to be missed, and promises a great day out for all who attend with food and entertainment, making it fun for all the family.

Malta’s Biggest Boat Show

Malta’s deep natural harbours and strategic location at the heart of the Mediterranean has meant that our small island has always been associated with maritime affairs, producing great mariners who have managed to master the Mediterranean’s unpredictable conditions.

We have also played host to the numerous maritime nations who plied our azure waters, from the ancient Phoenicians, to the Order of St John and even the British.

And this coming September, Malta will once again play host to a visiting fleet, although this time it will be the world’s great boat manufacturers and retailers who descend upon our waters, displaying the cream of the industry’s crop at Dock Number One in Bormla (Cospicua).

Now in its third edition, the HSBC Valletta Boat Show has become Malta’s premier maritime exhibition and has seen rapid growth, last year attracting around 20,000 visitors. Given Malta’s modest population of 400,000, this attendance figure demonstrates our nation’s huge interest in boating.

Around 70 yachts were displayed last year at Flagstone Wharf, and this year’s venue provides even more space for displays and exhibitors. With food and entertainment, the boat show provided a fun day out for all the family.

Despite being a newcomer to the international boating scene, the Valletta Boat Show has become a clearly marked fixture on the industry’s calendar. And situated on the picturesque island of Malta, steeped in ancient maritime tradition and surrounded by the clear waters of the Mediterranean, the show is sure to continue to grow in the coming years.

So make sure you circle this coming September in your diary in advance. It will certainly be a show that should not be missed.

2008 Edition
The 2008 edition of the Valletta Boat Show was held in the Menqa in Marsa. Although the area itself was previously used for landing coal shipments in Malta, the organisers managed to overturn the dismal appearance and the boatshow was a relatively good success, which please both the organisers and the sponsors, especially the main sponsor HSBC. The pictures show a variety of stands and exhibits. This year’s edition will be held in the number 1 dock area in Bormla (Cospicua) which is an area earmarked for a huge regeneration project. We believe the area is ideal for a boatshow and hope that this year’s edition will encourage the organisers, sponsors, exhibitors and authorities to continue using it for future editions.
